Dear Parent/Guardian:

Leadership Preparatory Academy is dedicated to ensuring a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students. Bullying is defined as repeated physical, verbal, unwanted, aggressive behavior among school- aged children that involved a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is cruel and intentional for targeted students. It impacts everyone involve and has the potential for endless effects. There are several types of bullying:

  • Physical Bullying- Consistent harm to someone’s body or property
  • Emotional Bullying- Consistent harm to someone’s self-esteem or feeling of safety
  • Social Bullying- Consistent harm to someone’s group acceptance
  • Verbal Bullying- Repeatedly using words to hurt someone
  • Cyberbullying- Using technology to repeatedly harm someone

We recognize that in any school, the potential exists for bullying to occur. We take this potential quite seriously, and we have policies and procedures in place that ensure that each report of alleged bullying is investigated and acted upon by school administration. The following actions are taken once a report is received:

  1. Data of bullying report entered: The bullying allegation is entered in Infinite Campus for all individuals involved whether bullying is founded or not.
  2. Investigation: An administrator or his/her designee will interview the alleged perpetrators, victims, and identified witnesses. The school keeps confidential the results of the investigation except with respect to notification and reporting.
  3. Notification:  The parents of the accused and victim are notified after the completion of the investigation. Both the victim and the offending student are notified of the results and findings of the investigation.
  4. Disciplinary Action:  Upon a finding of guilt, a student who has committed the offense of bullying will be given an age-appropriate consequence which shall include, at minimum and without limitation, counseling, or disciplinary action or both.

Leadership Preparatory Academy has taken several steps to effectively reduce the occurrence of bullying within the school. Our anti-bullying campaign is active throughout the school year and engages students in bully awareness deterrence. At the beginning of the year all students received anti-bullying training and made a pledge to help reduce all forms of bullying. Throughout the year students attend anti-bullying assemblies and continue to receive character development lessons through our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) and through I-Lead.

At Leadership Preparatory Academy, we believe in working together with parents to combat bullying. We know this problem isn’t confined to school grounds. Bullying at school affects and is affected by what happens at home between siblings, what happens in the neighborhood, and what happens when kids go online, among other environments. We must work together to take immediate action, whether a child bullies, is a victim of bullying, or is a witness to bullying.  It is important to understand the difference between conflict and bullying.  We encourage you to familiarize yourselves with the definitions of bullying, and to refer to our bullying policy if necessary.

Bullying is not:

  • Arguments or conflicts
  • Choosing one friend over the other
  • Being bossy to other kids
  • Telling a joke about someone,
  • Fighting
  • Telling another person either you don’t like them or  you don’t like something they did
  • Single acts of harassment, aggression, or unkindness.

Students who are found to repeatedly bully other students will be involuntarily withdrawn from Leadership Preparatory Academy and asked to enroll in their home school or another choice school. Join us in ensuring that all of our students refrain from engaging in this counterproductive behavior.
